SUSTAIN is an alliance of more than 40 research institutions and university departments working on sustainable development in Austria. Our objectives are to co-ordinate the research on sustainability in Austria and to initiate and deepen co-operations with institutions and networks abroad, who are working in similar fields. Worth mentioning is the node „Social Economic Environmental Research" as part of the Austrian Network for Environmental Research (an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Science and Transport). Besides the role of co-ordinator SUSTAIN acts as discussion forum for problems within the field of sustainable development. SUSTAIN organizes conferences for a widely spread participants, intensive work-shops for selected, specially informed audience and Klausurtagungen for its members with selected speakers on actual themes. Furthermore SUSTAIN works on interdisciplinary resaerch on practical and theoretical themes appearing on the pathway to a sustainable development. Continuous exchange of experience shall be provided. SUSTAIN is located at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Technical University Graz and is mainly financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Transport. A great number of conferences and research projects has been documented in books and can be obtained from our association office. Besides, SUSTAIN offers the procurement of interdisciplinary project co-ordination for research and application.
